Pimpri-Chinchwad: Chinchwad police on Wednesday nabbed a 41-year-old woman hailing from Karnataka near Pimpri. The accused, Bharati Anil Raje, was arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing an 85-yearold woman named Vithabai Namdev Chinchwade. She has been booked under Section 394 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The incident unfolded on Sunday at 11am, where the complainant was allegedly hit by an iron rod by Raje, following which Vithabai was robbed of her jewellery. The complainant said, “A lady dressed in a salwar kameez approached us multiple times during the day, asking for a room on rent. She had an iron rod inside her bag and coaxed me into drinking juice, which had an effect on me. She dragged me towards the washroom in my house and then hit me with an iron rod. Once I regained my consciousness, I saw that the jewellery I was wearing, worth nearly Rs 70,000, was missing.”
Senior police inspector V K Kubde told, “We had received a complaint where the description of the accused was given to us. While we were investigating the matter, we were tipped off by a local that, a lady with a similar description lived around Pimpri. Once we were sure where the lady was, we laid a trap and nabbed her. She has now confessed to committing the crime, but we doubt that there are more victims like Vithabai.”
