Will Thackeray Govt take responsibility of ST employees’ suicides? asks ex-CM Fadnavis

CM Uddhav Thackeray - MSRTC Workers - Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai : The leader of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis on Monday targeted the Uddhav Thackeray government on the alleged suicides of employees of state run buses and asked if it will take the responsibility for the suicides of two MSRTC workers.

It was alleged that two employees of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation died by suicide within a span of 12 hours. One of them, in his suicide letter, has blamed the ST Corporation and Uddhav Thackeray government for non-payment of dues, reduction in salaries and irregularities as the reason for taking such an extreme step.

The former chief minister called their suicides painful and heart-breaking. “The government should wake up now. The MSRTC employees and their families are in dire straits. What action will be taken against those who are guilty for these two incidents in Jalgaon and Ratnagiri? Will the government take responsibility for these suicides?” Fadnavis asked in a tweeter.

An MSRTC employee, who was in financial crisis, died by suicide at his residence in Jalgaon. Manoj Chowdhary (30), who was working at Jalgaon ST depot, has left behind a suicide note saying he took the drastic step due to low salary and irregularities in the ST Corporation. He said that the working methods of ST Corporation and Thackeray government (Shiv Sena) are responsible for the drastic step he took. Similarly, another ST employee ended his life in Ratnagiri, citing same reasons.

On the other hand, the Transport Minister Anil Parab has announced that the State Transport employees will be paid a Diwali bonus and two months’ salary immediately “ST workers should not take any extreme step. We have also asked the bank for a loan for their salaries,” Parab claimed.
