When everyone is accusing the controversial Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Rathod for attending the Pohradevi temple in Washim along with thousands supporters by flouting the COVID-19 norms, surprisingly the state police came forward to bail out the minister. It’s a shame on the part of the Washim police to defend the minister’s visit at the temple along with his supporters when the chief minister Uddhav Thackeray himself took a cognizance of the matter and directed the district administration to take stern action against those who flouted the COVID-19 guidelines.
Amidst the severe surge in COVID cases in the state of Maharashtra, particularly in west Vidarbha, the Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rathod had reportedly flouted the norms by visiting the Pohradevi temple in the Washim district along with hundreds of his supporters. However, in the latest development, the Maharashtra police, while registering FIR against ten others involved in this case, have defended the minister stating that he had only come to visit the temple and not attend any event in particular.
The Superintendent of Police of Washim district, Vasant Pardeshi claimed that the neta only took darshan at the temple and then he left.
Rathod, who was not seen in public after his name was linked to the death of a woman in Pune, visited a temple in Washim district on Tuesday afternoon along with his wife Sheetal and supporters, flouting the COVID-19 norms. The minister’s name was liked with the TikTok actress Pooja Chavan who allegedly committed suicide at Pune. The 23-year-old woman died after falling from a building in the Hadapsar area of Pune on February 8. Some social media posts and the BJP earlier alleged that Sanjay Rathod was connected to the death of the woman.
Since then, the minister was missing and spotted only on Tuesday at Pohradevi temple. On Tuesday, the minister travelled by road from his residence in Yavatmal to the Pohradevi Temple in neighbouring Washim, where he sought blessings and took part in rituals. A large number of Sanjay Rathod’s supporters thronged the venue, in apparent violation of the social distancing norms. Surprisingly, police personnel were also accompanied him.
How can police give him a clean chit in this regard? The action of the Washim SP was totally acceptable and bias. It seems that he is working on a political pressure.
At least the state home department and the director general of police should take a congnizance on the issue and initiate appropriate action against the minister. If the state power fails to take action against the minister and instead book poor people who gathered there at the instances of the minister, it would be unfair on the part of government and the law enforcing authorities!
