Mumbai : Trouble days are ahead for the Maharashtra minister for social justice, Dhananjay Munde in the rape case of an upcoming singer as the NCP supremo, Sharad Pawar termed it as a “serious” matter.
The NCP boss’s reactions to the media came after the NCP was mired in controversy as Munde was accused of rape by a woman. Terming the rape claim by a woman against Munde as serious, Pawar on Thursday said the party will discuss the issue and decide on it “as soon as possible.” “I think the allegation against him (Munde) is serious. Naturally, we will have to discuss the issue as a party. I will discuss the same in detail with my key colleagues and take them into confidence,” the NCP chief said. Pawar met Munde on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has been demanding Munde’s resignation from the state cabinet ever since the allegations against the Maharashtra minister were levelled by the woman.
After meeting with Pawar Munde said that he had presented his matter before Pawar and the party regarding the allegation against him. “I have told them everything. I will do whatever the party and its chief Sharad Pawar decides,” said Munde.
Munde, a nephew of late BJP leader Gopinath Munde had quit the BJP in 2013 to join the NCP. On January 11, a 37-year-old Mumbai-based woman had filed a written complaint with the Police, accusing the Maharashtra minister of raping her for the last several years. While the Oshiwara Police have not yet filed an FIR in the matter, Munde on Tuesday tried to clear the air in a detailed social media post.
Denying all the allegations, Munde claimed that the woman, an aspiring singer, and her sister had blackmailed him. However, the NCP leader acknowledged that he was in a relationship with the sister of the woman and has two children with her.
Even admitting an extra-material relationship is an offence under the Indian laws and it may trouble more the minister in coming days. The Opposition is already after his blood and Pawar’s Thursday statement indicated that the NCP also didn’t like the entire episode.
