The arrest of small-time actress, Rhea Chakraborty, who was an ex-live-in-partner of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, vindicated the “conspiracy” theory for the mysterious death of the actor, a couple of months ago, in Mumbai.
Rhea is being investigated by federal agencies in connection with death of her ex-boyfriend, Bollywood actor Rajput. His death and the circumstances around it have been at the centre of frenzied media coverage in the country in recent weeks, eclipsing stories around the country’s growing coronavirus infections and a sharply contracting economy. She is under investigation after Rajput’s family accused her of being responsible for his death.
Earlier, her brother Shouvik Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau. She has been accused of abetting suicide, criminal conspiracy and theft in a report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation last month. The small-time actress, who reiterated that she has never consumed drugs, was finally was arrested after three days of questioning in connection with drugs-related allegations in the Rajput case. It was said that Chakraborty had admitted before the investigating team of NCB to organising drugs for the Bollywood star and also using them at times, during hours of questioning. She faces charges that could lead to jail for up to 10 years.
The close sources of NCB also revealed that the 28-year-old, Rhea broke down with her brother Shouvik Chakraborty, who was arrested last week, during the interrogation of the federal agency and admitted her connections with the drug suppliers.
Interestingly, this is another major disclosure made by her, apart from reportedly taking the names of Bollywood stars, who were also consuming drugs. Rhea also revealed that through his brother Shouvik, she had met the alleged drug peddler Basit Parihar, who is currently in NCB’s custody, on five occasions and that he used to visit their house.
When the arrest of Rhea and her “gang’ was a moral victory for the Sushant’s family members and friends, the NCB move also demoralised those who fought tooth and nail for the actress and tried to justified that she was innocent. It was indeed a slap on the faces of those politicians, particularly from the Shiv Sena and its ruling partners, like the Congress and NCP and a section of Bollywood actors, who were defending Rhea and accusing the opposition for implicating her on “flimsy” grounds to settle scores and political mileage. Tuesday development also vindicated the tweet of Parth Pawar, son of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who said, “Satyamev Jayate” immediately after the “Sushant murder case” was handed over to the CBI, last month.
Moments after the Supreme Court handed over the probe in the Sushant Singh case to the CBI Parth just wrote ‘Satyamev Jayate’ (Truth prevails). Despite his party sharing power in the state, he had met Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on July 18, seeking a proper investigation into the death of Sushant case and urged him to take national emotions into consideration and initiate a CBI investigation.
Sushant’s family and several BJP leaders and Bollywood actors had demanded a CBI probe in the matter. He was also slammed by his own grand-uncle and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar for his demand, saying his comment was immature. However, after Sharad Pawar’s remark, Parth had received support from various quarters while the NCP was severely criticised.
