Sena workers assaulted BJP leader in public at Pandharpur

Sena workers assault BJP leader

Mumbai : In a shocking incident, some activists of ruling Shiv Sena beat up and hurled black ink on a BJP leader for speaking against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The workers also made the BJP leader wear a “saree” for his remarks against Thackeray. The bizarre incident took place at Pandharpur on Sunday and the Sena workers also made the BJP leader, identified as Shirish Katekar, parade through a street.

In a video of the attack on the BJP leader that has gone viral, the Sena workers can be seen parading the saffron party leader after hurling black ink on him. Further, the party workers go on to hit the BJP leader with slippers as a policeman attempts to ward them off. The police constable, who is seen in the video tried to stop the group from touching the BJP leader, however, he was sidelined and the Shiv Sena workers continued shouting pro-Shiv Sena slogans.

The BJP leader Shirish Katekar was reportedly protesting against the inflated electricity bills in the state when the Shiv Sainiks hurled black ink at him and assaulted him. The entire incident caught on camera. It was said that Katekar had, in his speech, said that Thackeray was unfit to rule the state. He also said that Thackeray had earlier claimed that he would make an ordinary Sena worker the CM, but later decided to assume power himself.

The assaulters blackened the face of the victim, Katekar, and paraded him on the streets. Surprisingly, the local police said they tried to stop the parade but were unsuccessful in their attempt. “The police have registered FIR against 17 accused and all of them have been arrested,” Solapur Police said.

The BJP called the incident a classic example of “jungle raj.” No one is safe in this Sena rule. Anyone who criticises them has to face music as Sena workers have become arrogant and bash up their opponents even in the presence of police personnel. They know that the administration is not going to act against them, alleged the BJP legislator Ram Kadam.

Kadam also demanded that the Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh should take a strong action against the attackers. The senior BJP leader claimed that Shiv Sena’s arrogance had led to anarchy in the state. He further alleged that neither sadhus, Armed Force personnel, nor the common man was safe in Maharashtra. In September last year, a retired Navy officer was beaten up by Shiv Sainiks in Kandivli for allegedly sharing a satirical cartoon of Thackeray.
