Mumbai: The on-going two-day visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Mumbai and a meeting between the famous Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and the UP chief minister rattles the Shiv Sena and particularly the Maha-Vikas-Aghadi government. Adityanath reached Mumbai on Tuesday and met film stars amidst the political battle over the UP Film City. Many celebrities from Akshay to singer Kailash Kher came to meet the UP chief minister. Yogi’s flash visit and recent comments on Film city has however rattled Maharashtra government.
Perturbed over the development, the Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member and party spokesman Sanjay Raut said that it is not easy to shift Mumbai’s film city to another place. The film industry in south India is also big, there’re film cities in WB and Punjab too. “Will Yogi Ji also visit these places and talk to directors/artists there or is he going to do so only in Mumbai?” Raut asked.
When Sena targeted Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and other actors, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced to develop a big film city at Noida in UP. As per the plan, the proposed Film City will be developed on thousand acres in Sector 21 of Yamuna Authority Area. Since the announcement of CM, Yamuna Authority has been engaged in the development of Film City.
Previously, Kangana Ranaut and other film personalities had expressed support to this announcement by UP CM and shared on Twitter. “I applaud this announcement by Yogi Adityanath ji. We need many reforms in the film industry first of all we need one big film industry called Indian film industry we are divided based on many factors, Hollywood films get advantage of this. One industry but many Film Cities,” Kangana said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to meet several other celebrities from the Bollywood during his Mumbai stay as part of process to set up a film city in UP.
“What is the status of Noida film city now? Can you create Mumbai’s Film City in Lucknow and Patna?” Raut asked. “Earlier, attempts were made. It is difficult to replicate Mumbai’s film industry elsewhere. Mumbai has a glorious film history and past,” the Shiv leader further said.
However, the BJP defended Yogi and pointed out that there are other film cities in several states in the country. What harms if UP develops a film city at Noida ? “Uddhav Thackeray government should not afraid from the development. Instead, it should provide better infrastructure, facilities and packages to Mumbai film industry so that it can fight back and emerges as the best one in the country.
