Mumbai : The former chief minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday strongly advocated that the chief minister Uddhav Thackeray should revert its decision and relocate the proposed Metro car shed to Aarey Colony in Mumbai.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis alleged that some state officials were “misguiding” the government over the proposed car shed project for Metro-3 line. It will lead to a major delay in the completion of the work and over-expenditure, Fadnavis said.
According to Fadnavis, if the car shed is shifted to Kanjurmarg, it will end up in cutting of more number of trees, the project will be delayed and crores of rupees will be wasted.

In a letter to the chief minister Fadnavis claimed that Aarey was the best site for the car shed. “The decision to shift the car shed will not only delay the metro project but will put a huge financial burden on the state,” he said. “A perception is being sought to be created that the Metro Line 3 car shed has been designed for passenger growth upto 2031. This is not true, it has been designed considering passenger growth till 2053,” the leader of Opposition said.
The former chief minister also attacked the committee set up to recommend a site for Metro car shed, calling it a farce.
Earlier, when Thackeray took over the reign of the state last year, one of the first things he did was he ordered for a halt on the work of Aarey car shed.
Thackeray also struck the cases against the activists who protested against the felling at Aarey.
Soon after all this, the four-member panel initiated an enquiry. They studied two locations for shifting the car shed elsewhere. One location was Jogeshwari and the other one was Kanjurmarg. However, the government soon learnt that now shifting the Aarey car shed will increase the cost of the project other than creating logistics problems along with stretching the time of project completion.
