Nagpur : The naxalites of Gadchiroli struck again and gunned down a police jawan while another constable was injured grievously near Bhamragarh on Friday.
Giving information in this regard, the Gadchiroli police said that the attack took place at Kothi village under Bahramgarh tehsil in south Gadchiroli, some 200 kms from the district headquarters, Gadchiroli.
It was said that the incident occurred when two constables had gone to a shop to get some goods, during which the group of Naxalites attacked them. The suspected ultra-leftists, who were camping there since night, suddenly attacked them with arms.
According to reports reaching here the divisional headquarters this evening, Dushyant Nandeshwar, a police constable of local police outpost, was killed while another constable Vinod Bhonsale was injured when armed members of CPI (Maoist) attacked them.
Nandeshwar died on the spot while Bhonsale sustained severe bullet injuries. He was air-lifted to Nagpur for treatment. The armed members of CPI (Maoist) fled from the village after the incident.
Senior police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. “Combing operation has been launched in the area after the incident,” a senior police officer of the district informed.
Earlier, armed members of CPI (Maoist) also attacked security forces in Chhattisgarh on August 12, after which an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites started. In this encounter, 4 Naxalites were killed by the security forces. A young man got injured in this encounter.
The incident took place after the surrender of two senior naxalite leaders of area before the district police. Jatin alias Bhauji Tumretti and his wife Ranjana alias Jyoti Mattami surrendered before the district police on Monday. Both the naxalites were carrying a reward of Rs 4.50 lakh each on their heads.
