PCMC Commissioner reinstates clerks to cleaning staff

Mumbai : Dr Sudhakar Shinde, PCMC Commissioner has reinstated 29 corporation staffers back to their posts as cleaning staff from Wednesday.
These employees, who were recruited as cleaning staff, had used their political clout to take up jobs such as clerks and telephone operators.

PCMC official Sunil Mankame said that the 29 staffers were recruited as sweepers in the now defunct Panvel Municipal Council. However, they were working as clerks and telephone operators. The commissioner has sent them to their original posting.

A BJP leader said that political influence was used during PMC ex-president J M Mhatre’s time to get the wife of another BJP leader recruited as a clerk in PMC without requisite qualification. “Many have objected to such postings as it has impacted the city’s cleaning work,” he added.

City resident V Thakur said that the misuse of political power to post unskilled workers to higher-level posts without proper sanction has affected the morale of others.

Another resident, Vinod Joshi, said that this is a welcome move. They appreciate the commissioner’s action.
