Mumbai : Nana Patole who was tipped for the post of state Congress president on Thursday resigned from his post of state Assembly Speaker and handed over his resignation to Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal. The Congress legislator from Sakoli would take the rein of the state Congress within the next couple of days.
While addressing his supporters after stepping down as the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, Patole said, “Our connection will stay strong. As an MLA I will continue to work and will follow orders. Until, the new Speaker is chosen, the Deputy Speaker will continue to work.” Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal, while responding to Patole’s resignation, said: “Nana will progress and he will be promoted.”
Meanwhile, the NCP supremo, Sharad Pawar said who will be the new Maharashtra Assembly Speaker will be discussed among the partners of Maha-Vikas-Aghadi. “Congress has informed us about Nana Patole’s resignation. Now, who will be next Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly will have to be discussed among partners of MVA. Yes, in 2019 formula, Speaker position went to Congress but then it was also not decided that Speaker will resign after one year,” Sharad Pawar. Patole resigned after a tenure of nearly 14 months in the august post.
