Mumbai :- The senior Congress leader and former MP, Sanjay Nirupam on Wednesday expressed support for the “shastra puja” performed by the Union Minister Rajnath Singh when taking over possession of the Rafale fighter jets in France. His remarks came the Congress mocked the ‘shastra puja’ for the first Rafale jet received by India on Tuesday.
“I am supporting “Shastra Puja” not BJP. Please don’t read too much between the lines, he said while appreciating the puja. Indian traditions and cultural heritage are far bigger than any party or any individual,” Nirupam tweeted.
Hitting out at the Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge for calling Rafale puja a drama, he said that not all in Congress party are atheists, like him.
Earlier, Nirupam, who was not happy with the ticket distribution in the state, had announced that he would not campaign for the Congress in the Assembly polls scheduled for October 21. He said the leadership was “sidelining” him though he had served as Mumbai unit president for four years.
A Rahul Gandhi loyalist, Nirupam also said that the Congress itself coined the word ‘Pappu’ for Rahul Gandhi. He also revealed that Rahul lacked support from the top leaders of the party.
