Nagpur: After the Mumbai don, Arun Gawli, now the former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who is serving life term in Nagpur Central Jail for naxalite links, was tested coronavirus positive. According to Arup Kumar Kumre, the jail super of the Nagpur Central Prison, the former Delhi professor complained of mild fever and sore throat and subsequently he was undergone for a COVID-19 test and the report came positive this morning.
The jail super said that along with Saibaba, four other inmates of the jail were found to have contracted the infection. Now as many as 10 jail mates, including Gawli and Saibaba are undertaking treatment of COVID-19 at the jail with doctors’ supervision, he further informed and claimed that all are stable and responding to the treatment.
The former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba was given life sentence by a court in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli for his links with the naxalites. The court has also found JNU student Hem Mishra and four others guilty of waging war against the country and supporting the ideology of the banned organisation, CPI (Maoist).
Saibaba was picked up from his house in Delhi in 2013 after Mishra and two others were caught with some incriminating letters and a memory card which contained, according to police, incriminating documents about the banned organisation. The search at Saibaba’s Delhi house yielded more of the same materials after which he was put in jail at Nagpur with others.
