Narayan Rane to quit Congress, not Nitesh, Kolambkar; May float a new party

Sindhudurg/Mumbai: Congress leader Narayan Rane is preparing for his big announcement tomorrow. However, sources close to him have revealed that son Nitesh and loyalist Kalidas Kolambkar, both Congress MLAs, are not quitting the grand old party. In fact, some believe that he may float his own party.

Nitesh and Kolambkar have already left for Mumbai after Congress conveyed that it was considering a disciplinary action against the two. This means they would both be absent from the big press conference on Friday.

“If he does decide to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he would do that before the next month. The next cabinet reshuffle in Maharashtra is expected to take place in the first week of October. Rane would join BJP before than so he can have a good portfolio for himself in the current government,” said the source.

However, if Rane enters BJP, Shiv Sena has threatened to pull back its support in the ruling coalition in the state as well as the center. This has put BJP in a fix, which has made some members of the party opposed to Rane joining it.

Amid all this, Rane has also dropped hints about the possibility of establishing a new party. He has already taken stock of his following and that of his loyalists’ with the intention of fighting independently during the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections. The faction within BJP that is supportive of him has assured to extend their support to the new party as well.
