Aurangabad : Two minority youths were allegedly forced to chant Jai Shri Ram slogan by activists of militant Hindu organisation at Aurangabad in Marathwada region on Sunday night.
According to reports, the incident took place at Azad square at Aurangabad. One of the victims, Sheikh Aamer, said that few miscreants, who came in a car, approached them and threatened and forced them to chant Jai Shri Ram. The miscreants asked to chant Jai Shri Ram, which they refused. “They did not thrash us. They threatened us and fled away,” Aamer told media persons on Monday morning.
Incidentally, the entire episode has been caught in the CCTV camera installed at the spot and it went viral in social media. This led to a tension between two communities in the city, following which police stepped up security.
Police have registered a case and a search is underway to nab the miscreants, an official said.
Amer (24), a delivery boy with food ordering app Zomato, and his friend Sheikh Nasir (26) were waiting to hire an auto-rickshaw when four to five men in a car allegedly intercepted them, abused their religious identity and threatened to kill them if they did not say “Jai Shri Ram”, they alleged.
The incident comes after a man was allegedly thrashed by a group of unidentified men and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Aurangabad on July 19. Imran Ismail Patel, a hotel employee, said in his complaint that a gang of around ten people stopped him near HUDCO Corner in Begumpura area in the city when he was returning home on a motorbike in the early hours. They reportedly thrashed Patel and forced him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ thrice.
Meanwhile, the city police lodged a complaint against the unidentified youths for forcing these two youths to chant Jai Shri Ram on Sunday night.
Chiranjeevi Prasad, Police Commissioner, Aurangabad informed that the police are trying to identify the vehicle and the accused. “Strict action would be taken against them,” the police commissioner further asserted.
He claimed that the law and order situation in the city is under control and there is no report of any untoward incident after the happening.
