Mumbai police serves summons against Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai : The state capital police on Monday issued a summon against the Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut on a defamation charge after a formal complaint from the noted film writer and lyrist Javed Akhtar in this regard.

Earlier, Akhtar had led a criminal complaint against Kangana before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate, for allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him. The complaint said that the 33-year-old actress had made baseless comments against Akhtar, which caused damage to his reputation. It added that the ‘Panga actress’ dragged Akhtar’s name while referring to a “coterie” existing in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June last year. She had also claimed that the veteran lyricist had threatened her to not speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan. All these statements made by Ranaut have garnered views in lakhs and thus tarnished Akhtar’s reputation, the complaint said.

While making the complaint against Kangana, the noted lyrist had claimed that, in one of her TV interviews, Kangana dragged his name and made derogative remarks against him. Magistrate RR Khan, after perusing the report, issued summons to the ‘Queen’ actress and the court posted the matter for hearing on March 1, 2021.

Subsequently, the court directed the Mumbai police to issue summon Kangana in this regard and asked her to remain present before the police for recording her statement.
