Aurangabad: During a campaign rally organised in Aurangabad’s Paithan on Saturday for party’s candidate Suresh Lolge, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Maharashtra chief and former Union Minister Raosaheb Danve allegedly said that money comes home a day before elections, people should accept it.
Elections for the third round of local body elections in the state are scheduled for today. Paithan is one of the municipal councils where the elections are scheduled on the day. Danve was further heard urging the voters to vote for his party.
Taking a strong objection to the controversial remark, the Congress has demanded that the BJP’s state chief be booked for violation of the model code. “While the Congress party has plans to approach the Maharashtra Election Commission with a complaint in this regard, the Commission must act on a suo-motu basis in this case,” Sawant said.
State Election Chief Jageshwar Saharia said Danve’s speech would be examined. The Election Commission had earlier booked Maharashtra’s minister and Rashtriya Samaj Paksha chief Mahadeo Jankar for a model code violation in Vidarbha’s Desaiganj urban body.
