Pune : Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh is the first ever Home Minister to visit the Regional Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Pune where he spent over two hours interacting with the staff. This laboratory has been at the centre of helping with several high profile cases like the 2010 German Bakery blast.
“Unless we give forensics its due we will not be able to fast track the legal process. This is a priority for the Home Ministry. We want all our forensic labs equipped with the latest technology on par with the best in the world,” he said while interacting with the Deputy Director R N Kokare and his team.
He took immense interest in the workings of rbe laboratory spending considerable time understanding how the toxicology, DNA sampling, cyber crime and voice analysis teams worked. He visited each of these departments and was explained all the gadgets and chemicals used by the team for their forensic analysis.
Kokare thanked the Home Minister for the visit and later told the mediapersons, “It is very rare the Home Minister himself visits a regional lab like ours. He unhurriedly heard us out and assured us that the Home Ministry wanted to equip all Forensic labs with state-of-the-art technology.”
