Mumbai : The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the state capital, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Wednesday and predicted an extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas. Several areas of Mumbai enjoyed heavy rains over the past weekend and with the onset of the incoming monsoon, the rains are expected to continue through the week, the department said.
The weather bureau forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few regions. The department, in its forecast for the next 48 hours, said, “Intermittent moderate rain/showers very likely in city and suburbs. Possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places.”
It is believed that the intensity of rains is likely to increase on Tuesday. A red alert has also been issued for Raigarh and Ratnagiri for July 15. While South Mumbai may have not witnessed intense spells of rain, Thane and other suburban areas reported heavy rainfall.
