HC: City police get notice over youth’s detention

Aurangabad: The alleged detention of a youth (22) by Begumpura police in November 2016 the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court has recently issued a notice to the city police.

Shahab Mirza Tareq Baig had a fight with a youth, who allegedly threatened him of dire consequences. He approached the Begumpura police to lodge complaint against the youth, but the cops allegedly made him stay in the police station for nearly 24 hours between November 17 and November 18, 2016.

Frustrated, he approached the high court through lawyer S S Qazi, seeking a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the police. Following the petition, the bench comprising Justice S S Shinde and Justice K K Sonwane on January 11 directed issuance of notices to the police officers and the private persons named in the complaint, while placing the next date of hearing on February 10.
