Googamal, Melghat forest officials seize leopard skin, nails: 7 held

Amravati: Five persons were arrested in connection with poaching of a leopard by the forest officials of Wildlife Crime Wing, Googamal Wildlife Department and West Melghat Area under Melghat Tiger Project.

The accused were produced before Achalpur Court. The court remanded the three of them to forest custody for eight days. Forest officials seized leopard skin, nails, teeth and other material from the house of Rangalal Bawane. Barkhade, Range Forest Officer from Paratwada, and his team assisted the forest official team.

The forest officials of Wildlife Crime Wing, Melghat Tiger Project and West Melghat Area got a tip off about Rangalal Bawane from Motha village in Chikhaldara tehsil having a leopard skin and was planning to sell it. The squad immediately laid a trap on Ghatang- Khamala road and arrested Rangalal Bawane and Manohar Tandalikar (34) from Dedpani village in Madhya Pradesh along with the cash amount.

Both the accused confessed their involvement in leopard poaching and also informed their three associates. Taking cognizance of the same, forestmen arrested Pandharialias Panda Madhu Shanware (32) from Jagdamba Square, Achalpur, and Ganesh Namdev Patil (35), Motha from the farm at Nawakheda village. Later, Sunesh Sayabu Bawane (33), a resident of Andherbawadi, Athner in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, was also arrested from Waghdoh village.
