Fadnavis dismisses Sena’s claim to compare Bihar with Maharashtra on CM’s post

Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai : Dismissing the Shiv Sena’s statement that the BJP didn’t honour its promise to share the chief minister’s post equally with its earlier coalition partner, Sena in Maharashtra, the Opposition leader and BJP assembly poll in-charge of Bihar, Devendra Fadnavis asserted that his party was committed to make Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister again.

The former chief minister and senior BJP leader said that Maharashtra and Bihar are different states. It has already been decided that Nitish Kumar would be the CM there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an announcement to this effect and the BJP is committed to it. “Nitishji will be the CM of Bihar (again),” Fadnavis said. The statement coming from Fadnavis, the BJP’s campaign in-charge in Bihar, assumes significance in wake of the fact that exactly a year ago, the Shiv Sena, a three-decade-old ally of the BJP, ousted him as Maharashtra’s chief minister.

The number of seats that Nitish Kumar’s JD (U) has won is far lesser than that of the BJP’s in the elections in Bihar. However, the BJP has said that it would be going ahead with its earlier commitment. It may be recalled that after the 2019 Assembly elections in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena, which had a significantly lesser number of seats than the BJP, demanded the post of Chief Minister. But the BJP rejected the demand, following which the alliance broke and the Uddhav Thackeray-led regional party allied with Sharad Pawar-led NCP and the Congress. The Sena had claimed that the post of the chief minister – irrespective of the number of seats – was assured to it. However, the then BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had made it clear that no such commitment was made to Sena leader.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis also thanked the people of Bihar for the NDA’s resounding victory and said the whole credit goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “poor welfare” agenda. He also said the people of Bihar have shown their full faith on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Fadnavis, who chalked out the poll-strategy of Bihar and selected party candidates for the elections, said the party has won 67 per cent seats compared to 34 per cent in last assembly elections and credited the success to PM’s policies and hard work by the part workers. He said entire Bihar, by participating in the election during the corona pandemic, has set an example to the world.

Commenting about BJP’s sweep in the by- elections, Fadnavis said like Bihar there is a wave of faith for Prime Minister Modi in the entire country.
