Mumbai : When the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is trying to wind up his “Mahajanadesh Yatra” and series of resignations of prominent leaders from the Opposition camp and joining the saffron parties, the elections schedules for Maharashtra and Haryana assemblies are likely to be announced in coming next few days.
According to highly reliable sources of Election Commission, the announcement could come as early as in the next two to three days. Elections for three state assemblies Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand are due before this year-end.
It was said that the notifications for polls to Haryana and Maharashtra will come first while Jharkhand Assembly will go to polls later as it may involve several phases due to the naxalite threat and deployment of forces.
The EC sources said that the entire polling and counting process in Maharashtra and Haryana may be completed before Diwali festivities. In 2014, poll schedule for Maharashtra and Haryana assemblies was announced on September 20 and the voting took place on October 15, while the counting votes were held on October 19. Diwali was celebrated on October 23. In 2014, Jharkhand voted in five phases between November 25 and December 23.
