Mumbai: The state reported another daily high of 6,364 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Of the fresh cases, the state capital, Mumbai reported over 1,300 cases.
According to the state health department, Besides Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Mira Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai in Mumbai Metro region are badly hit by the deadly virus outbreak.
On the other hand, owing to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases, the government has extended the ban on international flights till July 31 and the JEE-Mains, JEE-Advanced and NEET exams have been postponed.
The COVID-19 cases soared by over 20,000 in a day for the first time taking the country’s total figure to 6,25,544 in last 24 hours while the death toll climbed to 18,213 with 379 new fatalities.
Meanwhile, amid global concerns that China delayed giving information regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, a team of World Health Organisation will visit China next week to investigate the origins of the virus and its spread to human beings.
The proposed visit will take place more than six months after the WHO’s Country Office in China picked up a statement from the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission on cases of ‘viral pneumonia’.
The WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus spoke in January about an agreement with China for sending a team of international experts “as soon as possible” to work on increasing the understanding of the outbreak.
