Thane: The city could soon boast of its own chowpatty at Kalwa as civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal has laid out a six-month action plan to develop a now encroached 4-km-long stretch into a scenic creekside promenade.
The plan was announced on Tuesday during a survey of the stretch skirting the Ulhas creek between Mumbra and Kalwa. The civic hammers will start flattening structures in this area to pave way for a Chowpatty starting Wednesday, informed Jaiswal.
A survey by civic team revelaed nearly 250 commercial and residential structures in the area. Later adequate space for seating will be made while developing few recreation options. Adequate beautification will also be done by roping in experts, informed a civic officer.
The entire beautification plans will be done using civic and state funds in addition to involvement of corporates and sponsors. The rehabilitation of affected genuine residents and commercial unit holders will also be done before the monsoon, said the administration.
