Mumbai : In the on-going crackdown by the Narcotics Control Bureau, the agency on Saturday summoned the well-known comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiyaa hours after conducting a raid at their residence in Mumbai.
This is the latest in a series of raids conducted at residences of big names associated with Bollywood and interrogation of bigwigs of film industry. Actor Arjun Rampal and film producer Firoz Nadiadwala were also raided by the agency earlier this month in connection with a drugs probe. Firoz Nadiadwala’s wife was also questioned by the NCB officials at their office.
The NCB launched an investigation into the consumption and possession of drugs by people in the Hindi film industry after it received official communication from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which there were various chats related to drug consumption, procurement, usage and transportation in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s girlfriend, was arrested on September 9 and subsequently released on bail by the bureau after she spent nearly a month in jail on charges of procuring drugs for him.
Last fortnight, in a major swoop, the NCB raided the home of well-known film producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala and seized drugs worth around Rs 3.59-lakh.The NCB also arrested Nadiadwala’s wife Shabana Saeed, besides three other drug peddlers in the operation conducted at different places in Mumbai and in Thane during the period. The agency seized ganja, charas and MD, worth Rs.3.59-lakh from Nadiadwala’s home in Juhu and another location.
