Mumbai : The state BJP suffered another big jolt when its rebel leader and MLA, Geeta Jain, who won Mira Bhayandar seat in October elections, joined Shiv Sena on Saturday in the presence of party chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
She came to Matoshree in Bandra on Saturday and announced her joining to the Sena. The official Twitter handle of the Sena shared pictures of the ceremony and wrote, “MLA Geeta Jain ji from Mira Bhayandar constituency joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Party President, CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray at Matoshree today.” Several senior Sena leaders, including the urban development minister Eknath Shinde, the environment minister Aaditya Thackeray, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, and MP Rajan Vichare among others were also present to welcome Jain in the party.
The Mira-Bhayandar MLA had been associated with the saffron party since 2010 and had served as the Mayor of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation from the BJP in 2015. In October 2019 assembly polls, Jain was denied a ticket by the party which reposed faith in sitting MLA Narendra Mehta. However, Jain defeated Mehta by 15,535 votes and won as an independent MLA. Later she supported the Opposition BJP and was included as associate member of the party in BJP.
It was only on Friday that senior party leader and former minister Eknath Khadse joined the NCP along with thousands of party workers from Khandesh. Khadse was sulking in the saffron party since his unceremonious exit from the Devendra Fadnavis-led ministry.
