Pune : As coronavirus cases continue to rise sharply in Pune, a BJP legislator in the district has tested positive on Monday.
The district administration informed that the BJP MLA has been admitted to a private nursing home in Pune for necessary treatment. The MLA belongs to Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area and the samples of over 150 others, including party members and high-risk contacts are being taken.
The BJP MLA was reportedly busy in COVID-19-related work in the city for the last few days. A day ago, he started feeling unwell, following which his swab was tested and it was found positive, the district administration said.
Two days ago, a BJP legislator in Thane district and a Congress MLA from Nanded district too had tested positive. Earlier, three ministers from Maharashtra government, Ashok Chavan, Dhananjay Munde, and Jitendra Awhad too had tested positive and were admitted to the hospital. All three have recovered and discharged from the hospital and are now back to work.
Meanwhile, 10 cops have been infected by novel coronavirus in last two days in Pune. Thus, the huge rise in the number of positive cases at the police department has become a first for Pune, which reported a record number of cases in the last two days.
The additional commissioner of police (crime) Ashok Morale, the officers who have been infected by the virus are from stations of Hadapsar, Dattawadi, and Kothrud along with the headquarters and traffic department. In addition to this, the 35 people who came in contact with the 10 infected cops have also been ordered to be in quarantine.
The Police commissioner K Venkatesham stated, “We recorded the highest number of cases in a single day. The staffers have been told to be extra careful of their health. They have to frequently use hand sanitizer, face shields, hand gloves and masks. They should not touch unnecessary things and maintain social distancing.”
