Mumbai : The number of coronavirus cases has increased again in Maharashtra on Thursday. The state reports 6,406 new COVID-19 cases, 4,815 recoveries, and 65 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The country’s financial capital, Mumbai has witnessed a rise in the single-day infection count for the second consecutive day after dropping to 800 cases. The city’s tally of coronavirus cases surged to 2, 78,590 with the addition of 1,144 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The death toll due to the virus increased to 10,723 with 17 fresh fatalities. Maharashtra reported 6,159 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the count of infections to 17, 95,959. With 65 more people succumbing to the viral infection, the cumulative toll in the state mounted to 46,748. The state is now left with 84,464 active cases.
Amid a spurt in COVID-19 cases in the country, the Centre told states and union territories that they can impose local restrictions, like night curfew to check the spread of COVID-19 but made it clear that they will have to consult it before imposing any lockdown outside the containment zones.
India’s COVID-19 caseload went past 92 lakh with 44,376 new cases reported in last 24 hours while the number of recoveries surged to 86.42 lakh. The death toll has reached 1, 34,699 with 481 new fatalities.
