Administration imposes 10-day lockdown in Pune

Pune: The state administration imposed a 10-day comprehensive lockdown in Pune to break the chain of the coronavirus infections.

According to the Pune administration, the lockdown will continue till July 23. The first phase will be from July 13 to 18 while the second phase will be from July 18 to 23.

The fresh lockdown was imposed in the second major city of the state after Mumbai, in the wake of increasing number of corona cases. Considering the seriousness of this situation, lockdown will be imposed in these areas from July 13 to prevent further spread, says the deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, who is also the Guardian minister of Pune district.

As per the directives of the local administration, only essentials including milk shops, pharmacies, doctors’ clinics and emergency services will be allowed during the shutdown period while Grocery stores, retail and wholesale stores will remain shut in phase one of the lockdown.

Pune district in Maharashtra recorded the highest single-day spike of 1,088 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall count to 38,502. The death toll has risen by 39 to 1,075.

Meanwhile, a youth was arrested by the Pune police for cheating by posting on social media about having access to e-passes for travel in and around Pune city for a price. The cheater was identified as Mahesh Waghmare.
